Josiah Mcelheny was born in Boston Massachusetts, 1966 and is currently living in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Bachelor of Fine Art from the school of design in Rhode Island. Soon after he began working with well known glassblowers such as Ronald Wilkins, Jan-Erik Ritzman, Sven-Ake Caarlson, and Lino Tagliapietra. Josiah is a master of his craft, these finely made pieces are usually joined with photographs, text and museological displays. Inspired by art history, Josiah, tries to evoke the concept of memory and meaning through recreating old paintings, portraits or photographs from documentaries in a modernized way.

ReplyDeleteTo me these pieces take science and turn it into art. Itincludes an artistic feel but also a futuristic science appeal as well.
